Confessions of a Shopaholic

"With dreams of writing for a top fashion glossy, shopping addict Rebecca (Isla Fisher) begins working for a financial magazine pushed by the same publisher. But as her career skyrockets, she struggles to pay off overwhelming bills -- and manage her love life. Joan Cusack, John Goodman and Krysten Ritter co-star in this glittery rom-com based on the best-selling series of Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella" courtesy of netflix

I heard A LOT of praise for this movie from my friends and my sister but I didnt absolutely love it, it was just whatever to me. I mean it was very obvious, she spends too much money, she knows its wrong, she does it anyways because she needs the new gucci handbag, i think its a movie thats good for people who can relate 100% but i'm not really a shopaholic i won't shop when i don't have money i just eat out too often and by small little things. I dont buy designer brands because I don't have the money and I know I don't have the money. but, her boss is really cute. lol.

  2. yeah i didnt love it a whole bunch but i could see how people could like it, if they were the same kind of person. irresponsible, shallow, designer labels, i mean i like fashion and designer labels but im not putting myself into debt for it.

  3. I read a couple of the Shopaholic books (on planes..bored out of my skull). Just wanted to smack the dumb twit.

I did find the movie a convenient metaphor for the Current Occupants in DC -- when you've run out of money, just charge a whole lot more and you'll feel much better.

Did you ever check out the original version of The Women I recommended?

  5. sooo many people think "charge" is the answer. i would feel sick if i did that. i feel sick enough with my one credit card with a very small limit. lol

but i can see how it became succesfully, so many people can relate.

i never did! i need to. ill put it in my queue now. :)

  7. We watched Miss Pettigrew last night and i thought Amy Adams was terrific. You just can't help but love her over the top performance in that movie. And you're right, it did seem rather short, but because we were having fun watching. Brian really liked it too. Frances McDormand has incredible range as an actor. When you think of her accent in Fargo and then her British accent, well it's the closest thing to what Meryl Streep does with dialects than anyone else i can think of at the moment. Johnny Depp does a good job too.

    Anyway, it was cute.

  8. yeah i enjoyed it, i told you that was my first review ever on this blog. well her character was over the top but it was so real! i mean that was clearly how she really acted.

i think johnny depp as a more extreme level than both of them though. :)

  9. There is nobody better than Johnny Depp in my opinion. Not Brad Pitt. not benicio del toro, not Jack Nicholson even, not Harrison Ford (ESPECIALLY not Harrison Ford) - Sean Penn may come close. Jack does come close too, but not lately IMO.

If Johnny wasn't so freaking jesusdamned good looking he would have won an Academy Award years ago.

  10. I just saw the Worst. Depp. Movie. EVER.

    Public Enemy #1

And I love Johnny -- he was the only decent thing in it, but even he wasn't worth the 2 HOURS I'LL NEVER GET BACK!
